Resources
Welcome to our resources wing of the house, if you will! We often have repeated questions from clients. Standing in a blistering hot half-built house with a tile saw and music blasting is not the best time to explain the process for laying out a certain floor. This is more casual and fun! Stay tuned so you can see what’s coming next that might answer some questions you have!
Entertaining homes
In the south visitors are welcomed with cold lemonade or sweet tea and a comfy seat. We are born to entertain and raised learning how to do it. Just last Sunday I hosted an epic bridal shower and here are a few things to keep in mind when entertaining in your home!
paints and finishes
Oh my loves this is one of my favorite topics! Maybe it's because I was a makeup artist for so many years. Maybe it's because I was poor as an enlisted active duty wife! Maybe I am just wild about color but Paint is the SINGLE MOST INEXPENSIVE AND IMPACT CREATING THING YOU CAN DO TO YOUR HOME!
Depending on what direction your house faces the sun, the lighting in each room, floor color and style and to everyone's surprise- the RUG that will be in the room is how we select paint color. It's a lot more involved than just liking the color at the paint store.
Bathroom renovations
The two calls we get the most are for bathrooms and kitchens! Bathrooms need to be so functional but we also want them PRETTTTTTY!!!!!! The terrific part of either of those renovations is that they almost always pay for themselves when you put your house on the market! A bathroom renovation can significantly increase the market value of your home, and can be the make or break factor that can persuade a potential buyer. If your master bathroom is looking a little worn down and in dire need of a bathroom renovation, you might find it harder to sell your home. Put some work into your bathroom and see interest increase, all due to the addition of some new renovations.
(part 2) And the flip side- what to do with gifts people give you that don’t fit your aesthetic
Looking for ways to repurpose unwanted gifts (well… not unwanted… but what do you do with it??)?
What to bring home to your loved ones when you travel (part 1)
As you have seen from my recent social media posts, I went to Italy for a couple weeks for a 20th anniversary trip...but really it was a work trip too because I couldn't NOT see my lighting artists, fabric manufacturers, rug makers etc. in the flesh! We spent more than half our trip with various vendors I've worked with before or want to work with, and then we spent some time SHOPPING for the people we love. Buying from a local artistian is the way to go when you aren't at home (and even when you are at home). It also is a great way to support the local economy in the area.
Accessories are important. They just are. Here's why
Years ago Nate Berkus was on the Oprah show and said someone new should be able to walk though your home and know who you love, who and what you worship, where you've been and where you're at now, what your personality is like. They should feel your soul by how your home presents itself in your life. We honor that completely.
Accessories allow for individuality, personality, and bring charm to your home. Accessories are arguably one of the most important aspects of a living space, but the accessories should follow the theme of the room and contribute towards the unity of the room. In other words- they gotta make sense…
I have a builder so why would I need an interior designer?
You are already going to pay hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars to build your dream house. You already know what you like and have a terrific reputable builder. You already have 10 Pinterest boards dedicated to your new house. But do you know what types of lighting needs to go where? There are a million things to consider. OK, maybe not a million, but hundreds if not thousands…
